How I Became A GTME At ColdIQ

ENTRY #001

A few months before I got hired, I had applied for a role at ColdIQ.

By the time I applied, it was already too late; the position had been filled.

So when I saw a LinkedIn post from Alex (one of the Co-Founders) a few months later, talking about how they were always open to expanding their team, I knew I had another shot.

But I didn’t have any “real” GTME experience.
And this was ColdIQ, the #1 outbound agency in the game.

The pressure was real.

But I reminded myself:
The worst that could happen was getting a “no.”
(Okay, I was still a little scared)

But I did it anyway.

So I prepped like I already had the job

  • Polished my resume
  • Updated my portfolio (added some self-driven Clay builds + test campaigns)
  • Reviewed Alex’s post to see what I could hook into

Even though I had no official GTME experience, I had proof of work.
I just needed to get someone to look at it.

Here’s what I included in the DM:

  • Referenced the LinkedIn post that caught my attention
  • Introduced my background and skill set
  • Acknowledged my low-level experience, but showed my self-initiated projects, eagerness to learn and contribute to the team
  • Finally, I attached my CV and portfolio, then politely asked for a quick chat

When I hit send, I felt nervous.

I tried not to overthink it. I told myself it was just a shot, a test.

I honestly didn’t expect much.

But less than 24 hours later…

Alex replied.

He was open to a chat.
The rest? History.

Why am I telling you this?

Because this is exactly what LinkedIn was made for.

It’s the one platform where decision-makers want to hear from proactive people.

And when they’re posting content, that’s your in.
It’s a signal they’re active, thinking about building relationships, and open to conversations.

All you need to do is show up with a message that’s relevant, thoughtful, and human.

So I built this Clay template that helps you:
  • Pull someone's latest LinkedIn post
  • Extract key ideas from the post
  • Auto-generate a personalized message using AI
  • Start high-quality conversations (without sounding like a bot)

Use it to land clients, build your network, or get interviews - the same way I did.

You’ve got this.

Until the next entry, stay curious and keep building.

How To Clean a List In Clay

ENTRY #004 The day I built the cleanest list of my career started like every other… Just me, my laptop, and a goal: build a prospect list so dialed in that the messaging would write itself. I’d done this over 500 times. Sales Nav, Clay, Apollo, Ocean.io, Google Maps, PhantomBuster, you name it. I’ve scraped, enriched, and exported more lists than I can count. But this one? It was different. It started with deep crawling the web to find a hard-to-reach niche. But one thing kept ringing in my...

How To Use Clay

ENTRY #003 12 months ago, I didn’t know what Clay was. Today, it's my most-used sales tech tool and the #1 essential platform in any sales tech stack. But it wasn’t always like this. The first time I opened Clay, I closed the tab after 15 minutes. It felt overwhelming. Too many buttons. Too many options. No clear direction. The second time, something was different.I had a problem I was trying to solve, and I knew Clay could help. Since then, I’ve built 50+ clay tables, automated hours of work,...
